Tenerife is a busy island, known for its beautiful sandy beaches and sunshine, with more than 2,800 hours of sunny weather each year. Many people flying into Tenerife choose to stay in the island's capital city of Santa Cruz, which contains a wealth of hotels and lodging options. Accommodation is generally easy to find in Santa Cruz and suits all budgets, ranging from cheap hostels (hostales) to luxury apartments close to the Plaza Espana and the waterfront.
Santa Cruz lies around 11 km / 7 miles to the east of Tenerife North Airport (TFN) and can be reached by a range of transport, including buses and taxis. Many hotels in Santa Cruz are also connected to the airport by shuttles, which can be requested upon arrival and provide convenient door-to-door travel.
Hotels in Tenerife's southern resorts are often fully booked and rooms should always be reserved in advance to ensure availability, with the most popular areas including Los Christianos, Costa Adeje and the Playa de las Américas.
